At Oakmead we have been using an incredible new piece of
technology called the intra-oral camera for some time now. It fits in perfectly with our
philosophy of educating our patients to involve them in their own dental care.
The intraoral camera looks like a small pen. Inside is a tiny but very powerful video
camera. This camera takes a continuous motion picture of the inside of the mouth,
magnifies it up to 40 times and feeds it to a video display. This allows both us and you
to see your teeth in more detail than ever before.
As you might imagine, we have found this new technology enormously helpful. After all, the
mouth is a very small space and its also dark in there! In the past all we had was a
small mouth mirror, so anything that helps us see better is a very big plus. But what
about you, the patient? How does it help you? Here are just a few ways:
Because you can see exactly what we see, youll know the condition of your teeth and
mouth as well as we will. You become a partner in your own diagnosis. We have noticed that
patients are much more comfortable and at ease when they know exactly what we are seeing;
The camera helps us find small problems before they become big ones. Treating problems
while they are still small is much easier and more comfortable than waiting until they
have developed; And finally what the camera does is make your diagnosis and treatment
extremely accurate. With this precision you will know you are getting the exact treatment
you need for the dental problems you have.
We make good use of this technology at your initial
consultation so you are welcome to come in and see yourself on TV!
